Music is a huge part of my life. I feel like I haven't properly introduced myself if I haven't talked about my taste in music. I only realised yesterday that I haven't posted anything about it yet. I owe a lot to it really, it has been a friend to me through numberless events in my life, emphasised the good times, and made the bad easier. Memories and melodies go hand in hand for me, with every awful thought there is a song, and the same with every fun time. Typical, I know, but I can honestly say with my hand on my heart, I don't know what I would have done without it.
I was raised in a very musical household, my brother has played guitar for as long as I can remember, and my uncle who sadly passed away in 2008 was always seen strumming a guitar any chance he was given. Memories of my childhood are all extremely nostalgic, and wrapped carefully around each remembrance, I can hear Nirvana, or Red Hot Chili Peppers, or The Smiths and of course The Beatles. These bands are ones which I still listen to frequently.
Since growing up, I have ventured out a little further, and I like to listen to bands that are new, and upcoming, or ones that my friends recommend. I take a lot (and I mean a lot) of advice from my brother, who's taste never fails to disappoint, every band he tells me I will like, I trust that I will. With all this in mind, I want to share with you three albums I have been loving recently.
More Than Conquerors - Everything I've Learnt
Since growing up, I have ventured out a little further, and I like to listen to bands that are new, and upcoming, or ones that my friends recommend. I take a lot (and I mean a lot) of advice from my brother, who's taste never fails to disappoint, every band he tells me I will like, I trust that I will. With all this in mind, I want to share with you three albums I have been loving recently.
More Than Conquerors - Everything I've Learnt
More Than Conquerors are an Irish four piece band from Belfast. They target those who are fans of the likes of Twin Atlantic and Brand New. They already have two EP's, and this is their first full album, so when it came out this year I was so psyched for it. The guys in the band are friends of my brother, which is how I know about them. Their alternative rock vibes and harmony driven songs really appeal to me. The music has a real 'step on the gas' feel, and you expect that the vocal will have the same feeling about it, but its the complete opposite. Kris' voice is so sweet and melodic, which I really love. This band really do deserve more recognition and I would love if you could check them out.
The Xcerts - There Is Only You
I am obsessed with this album lately, I just can't get enough of it! The Xcerts are a Scottish rock band from Aberdeen. They already have two albums, and considering how amazing they are, they are still really small. They are yet another band who deserve just as much attention as everyone in the charts! With this album, comes a return to the 90s grunge scene, the scene in which Nirvana created. Because of my obsession with Nirvana, and The Xcerts' clear influence, they have became one of my favourite bands. I love the sloppy guitar lines and the double time drums. Listen!
Royal Blood - Royal Blood
Next, a band who's recognition has gone through the roof this past year. Rightly so too. Royal Blood are a two piece band from Brighton, who have only been around since last year! Considering the finished product of their songs, you would NOT expect that just two people, with two brains and four hands between them could create something so musically spectacular. They are a blues rock/garage rock band, so the bass lines have clear influence of blues music, which I love. I feel that they have put a modern day twist on blues music as we know it. This year, they released a few singles, I loved every one. Before I knew it, they were being played daily on big time radio stations, and their music was being used on adverts and TV programmes. Their album was released and took the country by storm, followed by a tour which sold out in minutes. They were almost an overnight success! I went to see these guys in Liverpool o2 Academy, they blew my mind! Since hearing them live I adore the album in a million and one more ways, and you will too.
Hopefully you now have a more clear idea of the music I am interested in, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Just as a final note, another friend of mine, Georgia, just started a blog too! A few of my friends have one now, and they are all intertwined with one another somewhere along the lines. She recently took an interest in photography, and got a camera for Christmas so she can start taking more photos properly. Her blog is about fashion and photography, and here and there she will talk about music too. If you have an eye for good outfits or cute photos, Georgia's blog can promise things that will appeal to you! So, check it!
